Just 3 hours from Siem Riep, Battambang is a good day trip or overnight excursion, beyond the Angkor Temples.
Battambang is Cambodia’s second most populous city and boasts the highest statue to resident ratio in the country, as every circle, park and plaza sports a statue.
The town is quiet (on the Sangker River) is a provincial city, with French Colonial architecture in a semi-neglected state, a large central market, and a handful of decent places to stay.
However, the real charm of Battambang lies in the surrounding countryside. There are the electric green rice paddies lined with sugar palms, stilted houses shaded by coconut palms and the hills frame this setting in a picture perfect postcard.
Battambang is a reasonably attractive, laidback town, with main attractions being Wat Ek Phnom, Phnom Sampeau, Wat Banan, and a crocodile farm even less secure than the one in Siem Reap!
