One of the most remarkable archaeological sites in Asia, if not the world, Bagan has inspired visitors to myanmar for nearly 1000 years. once the centre of a glorious kingdom, ancient temples dot the landscape as far as the eye can see. today, apart from spectacular sunset views and serene river cruises, Bagan is also the centre of the expanding myanmar lacquer ware industry. the extraordinary temples at Bagan (all 2,230 of them) are a sight to rival Angkor Wat and machu picchu, but with barely a visitor. the area is best viewed from a hot-air balloon at dawn.
